Le rendez-vous des quais, Paul Carpita, France 1950-53, 35 mm, German subtitles, 75’
Under the title Faire des histoires!, Brigitta Kuster will arrange video projects of the past eight years. Her presentation revolves around the motif of story-telling and will partly take place outside the cinema auditorium. Mostly collaborative projects, the works deal with stories of migration and colonialism. In the second programme of the evening, Brigitta Kuster will present Le rendez-vous des quais by Paul Carpita, who remains virtually unknown in Germany. The film is set in postwar Marseille in the context of a general strike by dockers against the ‘War in Indochina.’ When first screened, however, its topicality referred to the war in Algeria; the film was confiscated and counted as lost or destroyed until the end of the 1980s.
